ST CATHERINE, Jamaica— Dancehall star Adidja “Vybz Kartel” Palmer on Friday donated $1 million to the Waterford Primary School in Portmore, St Catherine which was well-received by administrators at the institution who were happy for the donation.
Palmer, who is arguably one of the most talented entertainers of all time to emerge from Jamaica, was a student of the Waterford Primary School before he matriculated to the Calabar High School in St Andrew.
A source told Observer Online that Palmer did not turn up at the school in person, but sent a representative to make the donation.
Already, the administrators are raring to start spending the money on important and well- needed programmes at the school.
“Part of the funds will help to bolster the performing arts programme and the plan also is to buy some computers. Also, they will be doing a treat for the children next week,” the source shared.
The source shared too, that in September last year when the current school term began, Palmer’s family donated books and stationery items and that the institution was very grateful.
“When school just opened, they gave hundreds of notebooks, pens and pencils. That was great,” the source added.
The Observer spoke to one member of Palmer’s management team who promised that a comment would be issued soon.
