KINGSTON, Jamaica — Senior journalist Garfield Angus will be the guest speaker at the Trailblazer Awards and Fundraiser Gala hosted by the New York-based charity, The Pollyanna Project, on March 1.

Angus, a journalist for 32 years, including 17 others at the state-run Jamaica Information Service (JIS), has written extensively on wide-ranging issues including the work of the Pollyanna Project which is headed by Jamaican-born philanthropist, Donna Moore-Stewart.

In her letter of invitation, Moore-Stewart described Angus as a “trailblazer in journalism” who had “enlightened countless minds” and “significantly advanced humanitarian efforts”, including the work of The Pollyanna Project.

“We are deeply grateful for your unwavering support and for the impactful stories shared by the Jamaica Information Service that have amplified our mission over the past 30 years,” Moore-Stewart said.

She said her organisation would be “honoured” to feature the JIS logo for the March 1 event in New York.

Over the years, The Pollyanna Project has donated extensively to the cause of children in Jamaica and West Africa.

In October 2021, Moore-Stewart was honoured by the St Catherine Municipal Corporation for her organisation’s contribution to community development in St Catherine and wider Jamaica.
