KINGSTON, Jamaica — Ethiopa’s Diribe Welteji with 20 points is the Women’s Short Distance champion after winning the 1500m in 4:04.51 minutes on Saturday at the Grand Slam Track meet in Kingston.
Welteji came into the race with eight points after finishing second Friday in the 800m. Welteji walked away with US$100,000 for her six minutes of running.
American Nikki Hiltz with 18 points was second and collected US$50,000 after finishing third in the 1500m in 4:05.39. Susan Ejore was second in 4:05.10 and finished third overall with 12 points and US$30,000.
Jamaica’s Natoya Goule-Toppin limped home in the 1500m in 4:20.73, assisted to the finish by the home fans in seventh spot. She finished with five points overall after getting three points Friday night for her sixth-placed finish in the 800m. Goule-Toppin will pocket US$12,500 or J$1.9m for her two races.
