⭐ Brief History:
The Alps is situated on a major geological fault. In 1840, the Jamaica Almanac reports that the Alps consisted of 551 acres. The abrupt landscape and the winding road presumably reminded the British colonists of the European Alps hence the name.
According to the locals the Alps has seven caves, two springs, one lake, and a river.
The South Trelawny Edu-Skills Centre was actually the Alps Primary School.
The Alps Primary School had to close its doors due to its dwindling student population. At the time the school had 56 students and three teachers, to including the principal. The students and teachers were transferred to nearby schools, including the Ulster Spring Primary, located approximately five miles away from Alps.
The South Trelawny Edu-Skills Centre then took the place of the Primary School, to teach young people about farming and other disciplines.
The Alps School closure was some time in 2015
The Alps Baptist Church was the second to be consecrated in Trelawny. it is really a converted Coffee House which was the only building available to the Rev. William Dexter of the London Baptist Missionary Society who came to Jamaica in 1835.
