Port Royal Jamaica First Cruise Ship | Marella Discovery 2

Historic moment for Jamaica at the new Port Royal Cruise Port

Marella Discovery 2 is the first Cruise Ship to dock at the newly built Port Royal Cruise Port in Kingston, Jamaica.

The historic town of Port Royal welcomed its first ever cruise ship (Marella Discovery II) at 8.09 am on Monday, 20 January 2020, with Prime Minister Andrew Holness celebrating its arrival as a momentous occasion.

Kingston Harbour is an almost landlocked area of water. Most of it is deep enough to accommodate large ships, even close to shore.

Port Royal in Jamaica was once known as Sin City "the wickedest city on earth", but it is hard to imagine that now.

In 1692, Port Royal was consumed by an earthquake and two thirds of the city sank into the sea.

Port Royal is one of the most important archaeological sites in the Caribbean and the only sunken city in the Western Hemisphere.
