Trinidadian gospel singer and minister Sherwin Gardner, who earlier this year scored a massive hit with Find Me Here (Blessings Find Me), says his new EP is coming out early next year.
“I’m releasing an EP in January and then a full album after. We plan for some things, but greater things are happening at the same time. It’s just God just knocking down some doors that have been closed on our gospel and he’s opening them up,” Gardner told the Jamaica Observer in a recent interview.
He continued: “My journey into gospel music started at a young age, singing in churches at just five years old. My début album, Power in the Name, was released when I was only 17, marking the beginning of an extraordinary musical odyssey,” Gardner shared.
The artiste said he is from a lineage of evangelists, deeply rooted in the world of faith.
“My mother, Rev Merle Gardner, is a pastor; my uncle, Kennedy Patterson, is a gospel artiste; and his grandfather, Ivan Patterson, was a revered bishop in the New Testament Church,” he said.
With this foundation, Gardner is committed to the mission of sharing the Word.
“My main focus right now is about taking the gospel out there. I will always have the label as a gospel artiste,” he reasoned.
The forthcoming EP, he said, will feature collaborations with Kevin Downswell, Positive and a “few major acts as well as non-Christians”.
A few months ago, Gardner was recognised at the Caribbean Music Awards for his contribution to the gospel industry.
“I was honoured at the Caribbean Music Awards and I was also at the Dove Awards [American gospel music’s highest honour] and some major doors have been opening up,” Gardner stated.
Find Me Here (Blessings Find Me) has racked up more than 1.6 million TikTok videos and 20 million streams. The song made its presence felt on multiple Billboard charts, including the Hot Gospel Songs chart, the Gospel Digital Song Sales chart, the US Afrobeats Songs chart, and the World Digital Song Sales chart.
“Man, I can’t even explain how this song (Find Me Here) has changed my life in the sense that I was always worship leader in the church and I had to resign to focus on being on the road,” he said.
Gardner, who has collaborated with Jamaican acts such as Prodigal Son, Papa San, and DJ Nicholas, plans to hit the road next year to promote his projects.
