ST JAMES, Jamaica — Dancehall sensation Nigy Boy was on Monday honoured by the St James Municipal Corporation for his global contribution to the music industry.
The Continent hitmaker was given the Mayor’s Award during a civic ceremony at the Sam Sharpe Square in Montego Bay a short while ago as the country observes National Heroes Day.
Following his acceptance of the award, the visually-impaired singer gave a brief impromptu performance of two of the hit singles that brought him to stardom.
In an interview with local media prior to him being awarded on Monday morning, Nigy Boy said he was extremely humbled by the honour.
“I’m extremely humbled and feel a sense of great joy to know that I am being honoured by the mayor of the city I was born in. I attribute my success to God, my team, producers who have recognised my talent, as well as to the unwavering support of fans, family, and friends,” he told the media.
Nigy Boy, who lost his sight at just six months old, hails from Montego Bay. In July, he was honoured for his contribution to entertainment by the St James Municipal Corporation at Reggae Sumfest.
