Former Arnett Gardens and Molynes United coach Alex Thomas has taken charge of Humble Lion, replacing Donovan Duckie who could not turn the struggling club’s fortune around.
Humble Lion’s struggles are well documented as coach Andrew Price left in December 2023 before two successful schoolboy coaches, Vassell Reynolds and Andrew Peart, stepped in. That didn’t last long and the much-travelled Duckie made a return at the start of the 2024/25 season.
But with just two wins from 19 games and the team sitting at the bottom of the Jamaica Premier League on 14 points, Thomas was asked to alleviate the problem.
Thomas, who coached at Guyanese club Slingerz FC, told the Jamaica Observer that he will conduct his first training session on Monday morning.
“I am back home and I was approached by a few clubs but the plan and the idea Humble Lion came with I liked the whole idea, I liked the spreadsheet,” said Thomas.
“Although they are in a relegation situation, nevertheless, that is what we are built for as coaches and to execute and make Humble Lion stay up,” he added.
“The short-term goal is to stay up and I am here to do my best,” he reiterated.
Thomas said he is eager to have a look at the players and determine what is needed to improve the situation of the club.
“Tomorrow, I would be on the sideline with the assistant coach that was there before. We are here communicating and putting the best foot forward for tomorrow. I’m glad to be back coaching locally,” said Thomas.
Thomas, who was at the Harbour View versus Dunbeholden game, pointed out that the JPL has improved a lot based on the games he has watched.
“I’m glad to see the league doing well and what they have done for the league which continues to make the league more interesting,” Thomas observed.
