ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Thirteen-year-old Zaynah Shaw of Four Paths, Clarendon who was reported missing by her family on April 7 was found on Tuesday hidden under a bed in Ewarton, St Catherine.

The discovery was made following investigations by members of the National Strategic Anti-Gang Division (NSAD) of the Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Branch (CTOC) within the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

Head of NSAD, Deputy Superintendent of Police Susan Bruce explained that an aunt of the grade eight Glenmuir High School student is now being questioned in conjunction with another female and a male to uncover what they believe is linked to a religious cult operating at the location.

“This property was occupied by her aunt who is believed to be the mastermind and another female, as well as two minor children. Both females and another male believed to be a pastor are now being questioned,” she said in a statement reaching the Observer Online.

DSP Bruce further noted that there is another investigation into culprits who tried to trick the child’s mother into paying a ransom once news of the missing child started making rounds.

“We are aware that some heartless individuals tried to take advantage of the child’s mother after this story became public. We are investigating these actions and are determined to bring those responsible to justice,” she said.
