KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica College’s Chavez Penn joined a select group after he won the High School Boys’ High Jump championships on Thursday’s opening day of the 129th Penn Relays Carnival being held at Franklin Field in Philadelphia with 2.09m, the highest clearance since 2019.

Penn, who won the triple jump last year, joins former Jamaica College athlete Clayton Brown as the only Jamaican high school athlete to win separate jumps events at the prestigious championships.

Brown won the triple jump in 2014 then won back-to- back high jump titles in 2015 and 2016.

Penn, who retained his Carifta Under-20 title last weekend, cleared 2.09m on his final attempt as Herbert Morrison’s Santino Distin was fifth with 2.03m, the same height cleared by Kingston College’s Aaron McKenzie.
