KINGSTON, Jamaica—Two policemen and a woman were shot and injured during a gun attack along Water Street in Denham Town, Kingston, Saturday morning.
The three were shot when gunmen opened fire on a police service vehicle which was patrolling the community. The cops’ injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Reports are that around 2:35 am, police were on mobile patrol on Albert Street in the community when they observed a man, who, upon seeing them, ran onto a nearby premises.
The officers alighted from the service vehicle and pursued the man on foot. The team headed to Water Street, but the man was not seen and they re-boarded the police unit.
Shortly after, the police team observed several other men with high-powered weapons walking along Water Street, where a party was in session. The men opened fire at the cops who took evasive action and returned fire.
When the shooting subsided, two policemen and a woman were found to be suffering from gunshot injuries.
The three were transported to hospital. Both officers received injuries to their hands while the woman, who police said is from the area, was shot in her back and leg.
The gunshots reportedly damaged the left front section and rear passenger door of the service vehicle.
