Hydel High stays on course for Penn Relays double

KINGSTON, Jamaica— Hydel High stayed on course to win a third straight High School Girls 4x100m/4x400m Championship of America double at the 129th Penn Relays Carnival after they led the qualifiers in the Mile Relay on Saturday morning at Franklin Field, Philadelphia.

Five Jamaican teams, including Edwin Allen High, Holmwood Technical, Immaculate Conception and Excelsior High, are through to the final that will be run on Saturday afternoon.

Hydel High, who led the qualifying in the 4x100m relay on Friday, ran 3:36.21 seconds on Saturday, just outside of the top 10 times ever run in the event. The time was almost 10 seconds better than second-best qualifiers St Johns College of Washington, D.C., who ran 3:41.21 seconds.

Five-time winners Edwin Allen High qualified with 3:41.30 seconds, followed by Holmwood Tech – 3:41.58 seconds, both having also qualified for the 4x100m and 4x800m finals as well.

Immaculate Conception qualified with 3:41.90 seconds, while Excelsior were the ninth and last qualifiers with 3:46.50 seconds.

St Elizabeth Technical High finished 11th overall with 3:48.40 seconds and 11-time winners Vere Technical ran 3:48.52 seconds for 13th place.
