NEW YORK— A New York priest was stripped of his duties after he allowed pop star Sabrina Carpenter to film provocative scenes for a song inside his church.

According to a report from BBC, a press release from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn advised that Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello was accused of mismanagement and relieved of his pastoral oversight and governance role at the church last November following criticisms of the music video.

He has since been replaced.

It is reported that church officials launched an investigation after the October 2023 music video for Carpenter’s hit song Feather which was filmed inside the church.

Images from Carpenter’s video show a crucifix with profanity printed on it and also Carpenter dancing on the altar in a short black dress.

Gigantiello has since responded to the accusations, telling parishioners in a letter last year that allowing the pop star to film inside the church was a lapse in judgment, BBC reported.

The investigation also revealed other instances of mismanagement beyond the music video, including unapproved financial transfers, BBC said.
