KINGSTON, Jamaica– Over 2,500 athletes representing clubs and schools in senior and junior events will compete at the Gibson McCook Relays this year.

The event was launched at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Thursday afternoon, and organisers announced that the meet will take place on Saturday, February 22, at the National Stadium.

Starting at 9:30 am, the meet will feature 40 events, with 31 of those being relay races, 15 of those being championship races, and nine individual events. Athletes will compete for various clubs at the senior level and colleges and secondary schools at the junior level.

The meet runs until 9:00 pm, with the finals starting at 4:00 pm.

“I am ready to witness what our athletes will have for us on February 22,” organising committee vice-chairman Errol Greene said. “The Gibson McCook relays continue to garner interest from international athletes who recognise and use this event as a measuring tool to determine the readiness of their teams for other competitions, and we look forward to welcoming them to the event.”

Greene says several international teams, including some from the Cayman Islands, have already registered.

The meet, which started in 1973, is now in its 48th year.
