Voletta Wallace, the Jamaican-born mother of late rap legend Christopher “The Notorious BIG” Wallace, has died.

According to US media reports, Wallace died of natural causes at her home in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. She was 72.

Originally from the northwest Jamaica parish Trelawny, Wallace relocated to Brooklyn, New York in the United States to pursue a career in education.

Her son Christopher was the only child of Voletta and fellow Jamaican immigrant George Latore.

Following her son’s murder in 1997, Voletta spent decades preserving his legacy and played a leading role in managing his estate which is now reportedly valued at US$160 million.

Voletta is survived by her 101-year-old mother, who still resides in Trelawny, her grandchildren CJ and T’yanna, and other relatives.
