Defending champions Cavalier SC’s slim hopes of getting an automatic semi-final spot in the Jamaica Premier League could be decided Thursday when they take on leaders Mt Pleasant FA in a rescheduled third round game at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex, set to start at 4:00pm.
Cavalier, who have won their last two games to move past Portmore United into fourth place on goal-difference, are on 63 points. With two games remaining after Thursday’s match, the champions must win to stay on course to get past second-placed Montego Bay United, 72 points, and Arnett Gardens, 70 points.
Mt Pleasant FA meanwhile are running like a well-oiled machine, and are on 87 points, winning their last six games with a 14-1 aggregate score.
Thursday’s game will be a repeat of last year’s final which Cavalier won on penalties. However, they are yet to beat Mt Pleasant this season, drawing 2-2 in the first round before being outclassed 3-0 in their second round game.
