In popular culture, songs about the Virgin Mary have been controversial because of their theological interpretations or political implications but dancehall artiste Ijahmar is not afraid to court controversy with his racy Virgin Mary single.
The song was released via online platforms last week with mixed reviews from dancehall fans.
“Mi don’t see what all the excitement is about, the Virgin Mary song is just metaphors, what I realize is people just have a big misunderstanding of what sex is,” Ijahmar said.
“I didn’t mean to offend any Catholics, but remember that Kartel did a song where he said the girl love is like Jesus, and mi come say Virgin Mary, so ah just religious metaphors, same thing. My song is just a representation of the ideal woman every man wants, the immaculate object of affection.”
The song was released on the Chase Mills Records label. He plans to shoot a video for the single soon.
Earlier this week, Ijahmar released a video for his previous single, the inspirational and uplifting Shooting Stars, which has racked up thousands of views on Youtube.
Other standout songs include Dreams and Thousand Reasons.
He racked up 12,000 views on visuals with his previous release, Polo.
