Clarendon man charged with murder

KINGSTON, Jamaica — A Clarendon man has been charged with the murder of 48-year-old Oliver Andrews, otherwise known as ‘Suity’, a shopkeeper of a Havanah Heights address, following an incident on Thursday, April 17.

He has been identified as 35-year-old Gofar Brown, also of Havanah Heights, Clarendon.

Brown has been charged with murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition and using a firearm to commit a felony.

Reports from the May Pen police are that at about 8:15 pm, Andrews was at his place of business when he was pounced upon by Brown, who was armed with a firearm. Brown reportedly opened fire, hitting Andrews several times before escaping into the area on foot.

The police were summoned, and upon their arrival, Andrews was found suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was taken to the hospital, where he died whilst undergoing treatment.

On Wednesday, April 23, Brown was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation. He was later charged on Thursday, April 24, following a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney.

His court date is being arranged.
